First, magnesium alloy processing safety operation regulations:
In the process of machining magnesium alloy chips and fine powder have the risk of combustion or explosion, need to delineate a special area as magnesium alloy parts processing area, should keep the environment neat, clean, it is strictly forbidden to carry out operations that may produce open flames in the machining work area, and sufficient fire extinguishing equipment should be stored in the working area.
Second, the content of the safety operation regulations for magnesium alloy processing:
1. The cutting tool should be kept sharp and grind out a large back angle and a clear angle; Blunt, chip-stained or cracked knives are not permitted.
2. Under normal circumstances, try to use large feed for processing, avoid using small feed to produce chips of larger thickness.
3. Do not let the tool stop on the workpiece halfway.
4. When using a small cutting amount, use mineral oil coolant to reduce cooling. If there is a steel core lining in the magnesium alloy part, be careful to collide with the tool to produce a spark.
Third, the cutting fluid applicable in the magnesium alloy processing process:
Small batch production or simple processing will choose dry machining, only boring deep holes may need to be lubricated with cutting fluid, in the feed speed and cutting speed is very high or mass production is also best with cutting fluid to cool, so in the machining of magnesium, cutting fluid is generally called coolant. In large production batches, coolant is one of the factors that extend tool life. Coolants are generally made of mineral oil. Mineral seal oil and kerosene have been successfully used as coolants for magnesium alloy processing. For better cooling, the cutting oil should have a lower viscosity. In order to prevent corrosion of magnesium alloy parts, the free acid content in the cutting fluid should be less than 0.2%. It is also possible to use cutting fluids for machining magnesium alloys.
Fourth, the fire extinguishing of magnesium chip combustion usually adopts the following materials or methods
1. Class D fire extinguisher: its material usually uses sodium chloride-based powder or a graphite-based powder that has been passivated, and its principle is to extinguish the fire by removing oxygen.
2. Covering agent or dry sand: a small area of fire can be covered by it, and its principle is also to extinguish the fire by excluding oxygen.
3. Cast iron chips: It can also be used in the absence of other good fire extinguishing materials, and the main function is to reduce the temperature below the ignition point of magnesium.
Note: Water or any other standard fire extinguisher is strictly prohibited to extinguish fires caused by magnesium.

5. Treatment of magnesium chips and fine powder in magnesium alloy processing:
1. Dry chips should be placed in a clean and sealed steel container and stored in a place that will not come into contact with water and wait for resale.
2. Wet chips and sludge should be stored in ventilated steel containers in remote places, and there must be sufficient ventilation to allow hydrogen to escape.
3. Dissolve with 5% ferric chloride solution. Since hydrogen is produced in this reaction, it should be handled outdoors in an open vessel, and it is strictly forbidden to start a fire around the reactor for smoking or welding. The dosage of ferric chloride is generally 1 kg of dry magnesium using 0.6 kg of ferric chloride, and the water in the sludge should be taken into account when preparing a 5% solution.
